Also known as cliff tea or rock oolong, each variety is named after the ancient bush it grows from on the high rocky cliffs of wu yi shan. Dating back to the song dynasty, da hong pao (big red robe) is considered by many to be the world’s finest oolong. In China this tea is usually reserved for honored guests. It has dark toasty notes of chocolate and fruit, with a smooth lingering floral finish.

Ceylon (Black Tea)
In 1824 the first tea plant was brought to sri-lanka (then known as ceylon) by the british from China and was planted in the royal botanical gardens. It wasn't until 1867 that englishman james taylor started the tea industry in sri-lanka with his loolecondera estate in the kandy region. Chai has been around for centuries. If you've ever travelled through Northern India, you'll have see street vendors selling their piping hot, spicy chai to tourists and natives alike. In fact the word 'chai' simply means 'tea' in many languages around the world and native drinkers of what we call chai would only refer to this spicy brew as 'masala chai' which translates as 'spiced tea'. If you ask for chai in India you'll likely just get plain old black tea!

Grown in the anhui province of China, keemuns are known for their notes of red wine, natural sweetness, and deep red infusion. Regional (Black Tea)
Teas produced in sikkim and Nepal are close to darjeeling and subsequently their characters are somewhat similar in taste. Nilgiri teas are grown in the high altitudes of the blue mountains of Southern India, closer to Sri Lanka, which give them a taste reminiscent of a ceylon.
