About Skyline Chili
The Skyline Chili chain of restaurants specializes in Cincinnati-style chili, a completely different chili from its Tex-Mex counterpart. The use of Mediterranean spices and chocolate differentiate it from the Tex-Mex chili although there are also similar ingredients, such as ground beef and tomato paste. The Cincinnati-style chili is also served with spaghetti or hotdogs instead of being eaten on its own.
Nicholas Lambrinides opened the doors of his first Skyline Chili restaurant in 1949 in Cincinnati, Ohio where the chain's corporate headquarters are currently located. Today, there are more than 100 restaurants in Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, to name a few states. The restaurants still offer the original chili created by Lambrinides and, thus, it has become synonymous with what Cincinnati-style chili should be.
The chili has a sweet and spicy flavor profile that works well with spaghetti (i.e., 2-ways) and hotdogs (i.e., coneys). There may be other toppings like beans, onions, and cheese, which adds depth to an otherwise pedestrian food. The Skyline Chili prices reflect the chain's commitment to serving the general public and satisfying their cravings for chili, the Cincinnati way.
