About Harvey's (CA)

These times we’re living in are filled with changes left and right due to the current health crisis. Things today are certainly different today compared to what they’re like a couple of months ago as government policies and safety protocols tend to change according to the spread of the pandemic. This is why you can notice quite a number of new trends that weren’t there before.

In the restaurant scene, here are four examples that you might expect to see more of in the coming months.

More vegan and vegetarian options

A survey shows that people are becoming more interested in meat-free alternatives to their favorite dishes. It’s believed that it’s brought by pressing health concerns brought on by the pandemic so this isn’t really surprising. Fortunately, companies were already thinking of adding such items into their menus for a while now so making them available now is just timely.

Major chains like McDonald’s, KFC, and Burger King have started rolling out veggie burgers since 2019. Local chains like Harvey’s also joined in on the fun with the Lightlife Vegan Burger in 2019. While Harvey’s prices are a bit higher than other international chains’ offerings, they can still be great options for those on a budget.

Technology in food service: tablets and robot servers

To better observe social distancing, some restaurants decided to use technology to process orders and get in closer contact with customers. By installing tablets in their stores, guests don’t have to interact with staff to place their orders. Robots then come in handy in delivering orders to tables for those who already opened their dining rooms.

Online ordering

Online channels for ordering have proven to be crucial for restaurants nowadays as they provide the most convenient ordering method to the public. It’s no secret that lots of restaurants did not see the necessity to create their own websites before the pandemic hit, especially when they’re active on social media instead. It worked then but with the recent changes in trends lately, a website and other online ordering methods are now deemed necessary.

Luckily, aside from a website and social media accounts, restaurants can opt to work with third-party delivery services instead to make their products more easily available and accessible.

Transparency in hygiene and pandemic safety measures

Most restaurants’ website pop-ups nowadays are focused on how the brands are taking steps towards ensuring their teams and customers’ safety during the pandemic. This kind of transparency appeals to a lot of consumers as it promises somewhat lower risks. With the additional concern of their safety as a consideration in choosing where to order a meal, this helps boost the brand’s positive image to consumers.
